Martinsville, VA – Jeremy Hoff formally became CEO of Hooker Furnishings last month, only the fourth in the role since the company was founded 97 years ago.

Jeremy Hoff, CEO of Hooker

The position became effective February 1, 2021 as Paul B. Toms Jr., 66, retired after 20 years. He is now chairman of the Hooker board. Toms succeeded Clyde Hooker Jr. in 2000, serving as CEO for 20 years.

“The history and heritage of Hooker Furnishings was formed through the leadership of Clyde Hooker, Clyde Hooker Jr, and Paul Toms. Each one of these leaders built upon the success of their predecessor,” Hoff says. “My commitment is to do the same.”

Hoff, 47, quickly reset management roles, announcing four significant promotions, all reporting directly to him.

Anne Smith was named chief administrative officer and president-Domestic Upholstery. Smith retains responsibility for human resources. Mike Harris was named president-Hooker Casegoods and Upholstery; he has been vice president-Sales. Johne Albanese was named Chief Marketing Officer. And Tod Phelps, who was named Chief Information Officer in 2017, takes on the added role of senior vice president-Operations.

In December 2020, Hooker Furniture reported third quarter net sales of $149.7 million and net income of $10 million. While the sales figure represented a 5% decrease, the company says challenges with supply chain issues are impeding  fulfilling orders already booked. For the first nine months of fiscal 2021, consolidated net sales were $384.8 million, a decrease of 13.7%, which represents the depth of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hooker Furniture is one of the top five furniture companies in North America, with 12 divisions operating distribution centers, upholstery manufacturing plants and multiple office locations in Virginia, North Carolina, California and Vietnam. The Hooker family of brands includes Hooker Casegoods and Hooker Upholstery, Bradington-Young, Sam Moore, Pulaski Furniture, Samuel Lawrence Furniture, Accentrics Home, Prime Resources International, Samuel Lawrence Hospitality, HMidea, Shenandoah Furniture and H Contract.
